Frequently Asked Questions

A musculoskeletal ultrasound is a diagnostic tool that uses sound waves to create images of muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and joints throughout the body. It is non-invasive and helps in diagnosing conditions, guiding injections, and monitoring treatment.

Musculoskeletal ultrasounds are used to diagnose a variety of conditions including tendon tears, muscle injuries, ligament sprains, inflammation, nerve entrapments, and arthritis.

No special preparation is usually required for a musculoskeletal ultrasound. However, wearing loose-fitting clothing or clothing that can easily expose the area of interest may be helpful. You may also be asked to remove jewellery over the area being examined.

No, the ultrasound procedure is painless. The transducer might press against your skin which can cause mild discomfort if the area being examined is already sensitive or painful.

Typically, a musculoskeletal ultrasound takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on the area being examined and the complexity of the issue.
